Bible Study, Sunday School and Prayer |
We make a deliberate effort to ensure that we provide an ample opportunity for the teaching ministry. We have Sunday School for all ages. Classes are each Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. Sis. Barbara Johbson is our Superintendent. Our teachers are well prepared to assist us with the knowledge of God's word. We have two Bible Studies each Wednesday. We have a noon Bible Study, which is led by Sis. Louise Chambers. Our evening Bible Study, which is led by our Pastor, meets at 7:00 p.m. Both Bible Studies begin with fervent prayer. We also have an intercessory prayer hour the third Saturday of each month at 7:00 a.m. |
| 55 plus Ministry | This organization ministers to the spiritual, mental, social and emotional needs of senior adults through wholesome recreational and cultural activities. Participants are also acquainted with resources of the church, community and government that benefits them. Jacquline Gaither coordinates this minisry, with Annie Little as co-coordinator. We also have membership in a local senior organization, Reaching Out to Senior Adults, Inc. (ROSA) |
Music Ministry |
Our music ministry consists of a broad genre of music, including anthems, gospels, spirituals and contemporary numbers. We also have a Praise Team that gives the leadership to our 3rd & 4th Sunday 8:30 a.m. Prayer & Praise Services. |
| Boy Scout Ministry Troop 3290 |
Scouting has been a part of West Side Community for many years.On September 21st during the 2002-2003 Conference Year, the Charter was renewed and the Cub Scout ministry was resurrected The mission of this ministry is to provide a ministry for the youth boys of West Side and in the surrounding community. Our Charter numbers are PACK 3290. |
| Youth Ministry | Our exciting youth ministry includes a Christian Youth Fellowship, the renowned John L. Thompson Youth Choir and the Mattie E. Coleman Missionary Circle. Our youth also participate in an outreach ministry to a local shelter ministering to children. Margrett Prentiss and Shelly Merritt serve as the Directors of our Youth Ministry. |
| Young Adult Ministry | The Young Adult Ministry caters to the lives of Young Adults and the particular challenges/needs of Young Adults. The ministry also assists in nurturing a meaningful relationship with Christ and the Church. Sis. Amberlee Thompson is currently the president. Sis. Shirley Hilman is the advisor. |
| Children's Ministry | This ministry provides children the opportunity to learn about God, His Son, Jesus, the local church and themselves as children of God. It is a “jump-start” ministry through which a personal relationship with God and a foundational understanding of the church is fostered. We also have a Sunday Morning Children's Worship Service on the 1st and 3rd Sundays. Our Children's Ministry is coordinated by Carol Sinclair. |
| Women's Ministry Bible Study | The Womens Ministry enhances a women's walk with God through conferences, Bible Studies and others activities (as announced). Rev. Viola Macklin serves as the Coordinator. Sis. Karen Sommerville is the leader of our current Women's Bible Study |
| Nursery Ministry | Our nursery ministry provides parents an opportunity to get the maximum benefit from the praise and worship service, while their toddlers learn at their own level about the Christian faith. |
| Lay Ministry | The Lay Ministry is inclusive of many of the ministries of the Church. It enriches, influences and leads members toward a committed relationship to God and the Church. Each first Sunday afternoon, a lay speaker shares their witness for Christ. In the immediate future various organizations will take a greater role in carrying out the services. Holy Communion is also observed for those unable to celebrate it during the a.m. worship service. |
